Q:  How do the hair products sold in salons differ from those sold everywhere else (grocery stores, drug stores, Target)? Do people w/specific hair challenges benefit more from those specialty products than those of us w/"normal" hair? Are the salon products really worth that extra investment?
A:

There are several factors that determine the difference in salon products and store brand products.  Some of the differences are: the ingredients, knowing if products are tested on animals or people, false advertising, ph levels in chemicals, shampoo's, and conditioners, whether the products cater to more than one hair texture, and 100% customer satisfaction or your money back guarentee.  The key to knowing what products are best is, educating yourself about the product and it's company, whether its a store brand or salon brand.
Top 10 ingredients to be aware of (the first 5 ingredients of a product compose majority of the product)
1 Isopropyl Alcohol which dries out hair and causes it to break
2 Mineral Oil and Petrolium acts like plastic wrap causing the scalp and hair to suffocate
3 PEG (polyethlene glycol) used as a cleaner and strips the hair of its natural oils
4 Propylene Glycol used for antifreeze PG breaks down protein which hair is principally compromised of
5 Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate(SLES) utilized in laboratories as a skin irritant tester which contains cancer-causing agents
6 Chlorine found in tap water, showers, and pools over-exposure can be cancerous
7 DEA (diethanolamine) MEA (momoethnanolamine) TEA (triethanolamine) hormone disrupting chemicals increasing possibilities of kidney and liver cancers
8 FD & C Color Pigments causes skin sensitivity and irritation
9 Fragrance which are toxic can cause skin discoloration and nausea
10 Imidazolidinly Urea abd DMDM Hydantoin the two main elements of embalming fluid
Remember when buying products always read the fine print, and check the ingredients in your products.

Q:  I never had a rinse in my hair before, would it hurt to put one in my hair.
A:

I would strongly suggest that you do a patch test with the product  before use. For the patch test, select a test area: the crease of your arm(inside of elbow) or behind the back of your ear.Using a mild soap clean and dry the area about the size of a quater. Apply product to area and leave undisturbed for 24 hours. If there is no sign of redness or irritation, you can proceed with the color service.

Q:  Can you do chemicals in one day?
A:

Multiple chemical services done the same day are not recomended. Please seek professional advice before you commence a chemical service at home. There can be severe damage done to the cuticle of the hair (outer layer). After every chemical service you should follow with a protein treatment and or a deep conditioning treatment

Q:  Should I wash and condition my hair everyday?
A:  It is okay to shampoo and condition your hair everyday, there is no harm. Be sure to check the first 5  ingredients on the back label of your products for alcohol. Alcohol will strip the hair of it's natural oils.
